RESUMO

Stable azaheterocyclic derivatives of pentalene have been reported by the group of Hafner in the 1970s. However, these structures remained of low interest until recently, when they started to be investigated in the context of organic light-emitting diodes' (OLEDs') development. Herein, we revisit the synthesis of stable azapentalene derivative 1,3-bis(dimethylamino)-2-azapentalene and further explore its properties both computationally and experimentally. Beyond the reproduction and optimization of some previously reported transformations, such as formylation and amine substitution, the available scope of reactions was expanded with azo-coupling, selective halogenations, and cross-coupling reactions.

RESUMO

A novel cationic complex, bromido-tetra-kis-[5-(prop-2-en-1-ylsulfan-yl)-1,3,4-thia-diazol-2-amine-κN 3]copper(II) bromide, [CuBr](C5H7N3S2)4Br, was synthesized. The complex crystallizes with fourfold mol-ecular symmetry in the tetra-gonal space group P4/n. The CuII atom exhibits a square-pyramidal coord-ination geometry. The Cu atom is located centrally within the complex, being coordinated by four nitro-gen atoms from four AAT mol-ecules, while a bromine anion is located at the apex of the pyramid. The amino H atoms of AAT inter-act with bromine from the inner and outer spheres, forming a two-dimensional network in the [100] and [010] directions. Hirshfeld surface analysis reveals that 33.7% of the inter-mol-ecular inter-actions are from H⋯H contacts, 21.2% are from S⋯H/H⋯S contacts, 13.4% are from S⋯S contacts and 11.0% are from C⋯H/H⋯C, while other contributions are from Br⋯H/H⋯Br and N⋯H/H⋯N contacts.

RESUMO

Monobenzopentalenes have received moderate attention compared to dibenzopentalenes, yet their accessibility as stable, non-symmetric structures with diverse substituents could be interesting for materials applications, including molecular photonics. Recently, monobenzopentalene was considered computationally as a potential chromophore for singlet fission (SF) photovoltaics. To advance this compound class towards photonics applications, the excited state energetics must be characterized, computationally and experimentally. In this report we synthesized a series of stable substituted monobenzopentalenes and provided the first experimental exploration of their photophysical properties. Structural and opto-electronic characterization revealed that all derivatives showed 1H NMR shifts in the olefinic region, bond length alternation in the pentalene unit, low-intensity absorptions reflecting the ground-state antiaromatic character and in turn the symmetry forbidden HOMO-to-LUMO transitions of ~2 eV and redox amphotericity. This was also supported by computed aromaticity indices (NICS, ACID, HOMA). Accordingly, substituents did not affect the fulfilment of the energetic criterion of SF, as the computed excited-state energy levels satisfied the required E(S1)/E(T1)>2 relationship. Further spectroscopic measurements revealed a concentration dependent quenching of the excited state and population of the S2 state on the nanosecond timescale, providing initial evidence for unusual photophysics and an alternative entry point for singlet fission with monobenzopentalenes.

RESUMO

A hybrid molecular switch comprising salicylideneaniline (SA) and dithienylethene (DTE) moieties around a single benzene ring is reported. Due to an interplay between solvent-assisted enol-keto tautomerization in the former moiety and photochromic electrocyclization in the latter, this dithienylbenzene derivative was found to be photoresponsive at room temperature with a thermally stable closed form. The main photoproduct featuring ring-closed DTE and keto-enamine SA structures could be isolated and converted back to the starting material by irradiation with visible light. The optical properties of the potential structures involved in the overall process were characterized by using density functional theory (DFT) calculations in good agreement with the measured data. The reversibility of the conversion could be tuned by the presence of donor and acceptor substituents, while the introduction of the imine in the form of a benzothiazole moiety enabled photochemistry even in nonprotic solvents.

RESUMO

Iron(II) complexes containing ligands with a R2 P-P-PR2 unit were synthesized by metathesis reactions. With R=tBu, a mixture of two isomers is formed; in one of them, the terminal phosphorus binds to the Fe center (ylidic structure), while in the other one, the central P atom is linked to Fe. Starting from differently functionalized parent triphosphanes and corresponding functionalized Fe complexes, the ratio of isomers does not change. The outcome of the reaction and therefore the binding modes of the triphosphane ligands in the resulting compounds can be influenced by the size of the substituents. In the case of R=iPr a chelate complex is formed (both terminal P atoms are linked to the Fe center). Applying the mixed-substituted triphosphane, the ylidic structure of the resulting complex is preferred. The new compounds were characterized by NMR spectroscopy in solution and single-crystal X-ray diffraction in solid-state. The synthetic work was supported by DFT calculations.

RESUMO

A first coordination compound of 2-amino-benzoxazole (2AB), namely, bis-(2-amino-benzoxazole-κN 3)bis-(acetato-κ2 O,O')cadmium(II), [Cd(CH3COO)2(2AB)2], has been synthesized from ethanol solutions of Cd(CH3(COO)2 and 2AB. In the monoclinic crystals with the space group C21/c, the cadmium ions coordinate two neutral 2AB mol-ecules in a monodentate fashion through the oxazole N atom, while two acetate ligands are coordinated through the O atoms in a bidentate manner. The coordination polyhedron of the central ion is substanti-ally distorted octa-hedral. There are two relatively strong intra-molecular hydrogen bonds in the complex mol-ecule. Additionally, two inter-molecular hydrogen bonds associate complex mol-ecules into columns running in the [10] and [110] directions. The Hirshfeld surface analysis shows that 45.7% of the inter-molecular inter-actions are from H⋯H contacts, 24.7% are from O⋯H/H⋯O contacts and 18.8% are from C⋯H/H⋯C contacts, while other contributions are from N⋯H/H⋯N and O⋯O contacts.

RESUMO

Diastereoselective and diastereoconvergent syntheses of 2- and 3-substituted morpholine congeners are reported. Starting from tosyl-oxazatedine 1 and α-formyl carboxylates 2, base catalysis is utilized to yield morpholine hemiaminals. Their further synthetic elaborations allowed the concise constructions of conformationally rigid morpholines. The observed diastereoselectivities and the unusual diastereoconvergence in the photoredox radical processes seem to be the direct consequence of the avoidance of pseudo A1,3 strain between the C-3 substituent and the N-tosyl group and the anomeric effect of oxygen atoms.

RESUMO

A focused library of 1-adamantyl arylthiophosphonates was prepared in racemic form. An enantioseparation method was developed for P-stereogenic thiophosphonates using (S)-1-phenylethylamine as the resolving agent. Under optimized conditions, three out of the five arylthiophosphonates were prepared in enantiopure form (ee > 99%). The subsequent desulfurization of optically active arylthiophosphonates gave the corresponding H-phosphinates without significant erosion of enantiomeric purity (ee = 95-98%). Hence, this reaction sequence can be considered an alternative method for the preparation of 1-adamantyl aryl-H-phopshinates. The absolute configuration of the (S)-1-adamantyl phenylphosphonothioic acid was assigned using single-crystal XRD and it allowed the confirmation that the removal of the P = S group proceeds with retention of configuration. The organocatalytic applicability of (S)-1-adamantyl phenylphosphonothioic acid was also evaluated as a P-stereogenic Brønsted acid.

RESUMO

The synthesis and properties of a series of unsymmetrical thienopentalenes are explored, including both monoareno and diareno derivatives. For the synthesis of monoareno pentalenes, a carbopalladation cascade reaction between alkynes and gem-dibromoolefins was applied. Diareno pentalene derivatives were accessed via gold-catalyzed cyclization of diynes. Thiophene was fused to pentalene in two different geometries via its 2,3 and 3,4 bonds. 2,3-Fusion resulted in increased antiaromaticity of the pentalene unit compared to the 3,4-fusion both in the monoareno and diareno framework. Monothienopentalenes that contained the destabilizing 2,3-fusion could not be isolated. For diareno derivatives, the aromatic character of the different aryl groups fused to the pentalene was not independent. Destabilizing fusion on one side resulted in alleviated aromaticity on the other side and vice versa. The synthesized molecules were characterized experimentally by 1H NMR and UV-vis spectroscopies, cyclic voltammetry, and X-ray crystallography, and their aromatic character was assessed using magnetic (NICS and ACID) and electronic indices (MCI and FLU).

RESUMO

Secondary phosphine oxides incorporating various aryl and alkyl groups were synthesized in racemic form, and these products formed the library reported in this study. TADDOL derivatives were used to obtain the optical resolution of these P-stereogenic secondary phosphine oxides. The developed resolution method showed a good scope under the optimized reaction conditions, as 9 out of 14 derivatives could be prepared with an enantiomeric excess (ee) ≥ 79% and 5 of these derivatives were practically enantiopure >P(O)H compounds (ee ≥ 98%). The scalability of this resolution method was also demonstrated. Noncovalent interactions responsible for the formation of diasteromeric complexes were elucidated by single-crystal XRD measurements. (S)-(2-Methylphenyl)phenylphosphine oxide was transformed to a variety of P-stereogenic tertiary phosphine oxides and a thiophosphinate in stereospecific Michaelis-Becker, Hirao, or Pudovik reactions.

RESUMO

A series of half-sandwich polypyridyl complexes was synthesized and compared focusing on structural, cytotoxic and aqueous solution behaviour. The formula of the synthesized complexes is [M(arene)(N,N)Cl]Cl, where M: Ru or Rh, arene: p-cymene, toluene or C5Me5-, (N,N): 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy), 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine (dmb), 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) or 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (neo). The structures of five half-sandwich complexes were determined by X-ray crystallography. It was found that introducing methyl groups next to the coordinating nitrogen atoms of the bidentate ligand causes steric congestion around the metal centre which changes the angle between ligand planes. The ligands and the Rh complexes showed significant cytotoxicity in A2780 and MES-SA cancer cell lines (IC50 = 0.1-56 µM) and in the cisplatin-resistant A2780cis cells. Paradoxically, phen and dmb as well as their half-sandwich Rh complexes showed increased toxicity against multidrug resistant MES-SA/Dx5 cells. In contrast, coordination to Ru caused loss of toxicity. Solution equilibrium constants showed that the studied metal complexes have high stability, and no dissociation was found for Ru and Rh complexes even at micromolar concentrations in a wide pH range. However, in the case of Ru complexes a slow and irreversible decomposition, namely arene loss, was also observed, which was more pronounced in light exposure in aqueous solution. In the case of neo, the methyl groups next to the nitrogen atoms significantly decrease the stability of complexes. For Rh complexes, the order of the stability constants corrected with ligand basicity (log K*): 9.78 (phen) > 9.01 (dmb) > 8.89 (bpy) > 3.93 (neo). The coordinated neo resulted in an enormous decrease in the chloride ion affinity of Ru compounds. Based on the results, a universal model was introduced for the prediction of chloride ion capability of half-sandwich Rh and Ru complexes. It combines the effects of the bidentate ligand and the M(arene) part using only two terms, performing multilinear regression procedure.

RESUMO

The coordination properties of four hydroxypyridinecarboxylates, designed for the treatment of iron-overloading conditions as bidentate O,O'-donor ligands, have been studied with ZnII in the solid state. The coordination compounds [Zn(A1)2(H2O)2] (1), [Zn(A2)2(H2O)] (2), [Zn(A3)2(H2O)]·2H2O (3) and [Zn2(B1)4(H2O)2]·4H2O (4), where the ligands are 1-methyl-4-oxidopyridinium-3-carboxylate (A1, C7H6NO3), 1,6-dimethyl-4-oxidopyridinium-3-carboxylate (A2, C8H8NO3), 1,5-dimethyl-4-oxido-pyridinium-3-carboxylate (A3, C8H8NO3) and 1-methyl-3-oxidopyridinium-4-carboxylate (B1, C7H6NO3), have been synthesized and analysed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The ligands were chosen to probe (i) the electronic effects of inverting the positions of the O-atom donor groups (i.e. A1 versus B1) and (ii) the electronic and steric effects of the addition of a second methyl group in different positions on the pyridine ring. Two axially coordinated water molecules resulting in a six-coordinated symmetrical octahedron complement the bis-ligand complex of A1. Ligands A2 and A3 form five-coordinated trigonal bipyramidal complexes with one additional water molecule in the coordination sphere, which is a rarely reported geometry for ZnII complexes. Ligand B1 shows a dimeric structure, where the two Zn2+ dications have slightly distorted octahedral geometry and the pyridinolate O atom of the neighbouring complex bridges them. The coordination spheres of the Zn2+ dications and the supramolecular structures are discussed in detail. The packing arrangements of 1-3 are similar, having alternating hydrophilic and hydrophobic layers, however the similarity is broken in 4. The obtained coordination geometries are compared with their previously determined CuII analogues. The study of the individual complexes is complemented with a comprehensive analysis of ZnII complexes with oxygen donor ligands with data from the Cambridge Structural Database.

RESUMO

Herein, the design and synthesis of a click-derived Pd-complex merged with a photoswitchable azobenzene unit is presented. While in the trans-form of the switch the complex showed limited solubility, the photogenerated cis-form rendered the molecule soluble in polar solvents. This light-controllable solubility was exploited to affect the catalytic activity in the Suzuki coupling reaction. The effect of the substrate and catalyst concentration and light intensity on the proceeding and outcome of the reaction was studied. Dehalogenation of the aryl iodide starting material was found to be a major side reaction; however, its occurrence was dependent on the applied light intensity.

RESUMO

We report 8-step syntheses of (-)-minovincine and (-)-aspidofractinine using easily available and inexpensive reagents and catalyst. A key element of the strategy was the utilization of a sequence of cascade reactions to rapidly construct the penta- and hexacyclic frameworks. These cascade transformations included organocatalytic Michael-aldol condensation, a multistep anionic Michael-SN 2 cascade reaction, and Mannich reaction interrupted Fischer indolization. To streamline the synthetic routes, we also investigated the deliberate use of steric effect to secure various chemo- and regioselective transformations.

RESUMO

According to the currently accepted structure-property relationships, aceno-pentalenes with an angular shape (fused to the 1,2-bond of the acene) exhibit higher antiaromaticity than those with a linear shape (fused to the 2,3-bond of the acene). To explore and expand the current view, we designed and synthesized molecules where two isomeric, yet, different, 8π antiaromatic subunits, a benzocyclobutadiene (BCB) and a pentalene, are combined into, respectively, an angular and a linear topology via an unsaturated six-membered ring. The antiaromatic character of the molecules is supported experimentally by 1H NMR, UV-vis, and cyclic voltammetry measurements and X-ray crystallography. The experimental results are further confirmed by theoretical studies including the calculation of several aromaticity indices (NICS, ACID, HOMA, FLU, MCI). In the case of the angular molecule, double bond-localization within the connecting six-membered ring resulted in reduced antiaromaticity of both the BCB and pentalene subunits, while the linear structure provided a competitive situation for the two unequal [4n]π subunits. We found that in the latter case the BCB unit alleviated its unfavorable antiaromaticity more efficiently, leaving the pentalene with strong antiaromaticity. Thus, a reversed structure-antiaromaticity relationship when compared to aceno-pentalenes was achieved.

RESUMO

The reductive Ireland-Claisen rearrangement through borane-mediated hydrosilylation is reported. The method employs a borane catalyst with a special structural design and affords access to synthetically relevant products with high diastereoselectivity. Depending on electronic and structural parameters, the reaction can be coupled with a 1,3-allylic shift, thus the valence isomer of the Ireland-Claisen product is formed.

RESUMO

Phosphine-phosphoramidites (PPAs) are heterobidentate ligands that have been developed in the last two decades and have been used successfully in asymmetric catalytic reactions. A single crystal of the PPA (11bS)-N-[(2S,4S)-4-(diphenylphosphanyl)pentan-2-yl]-N-methyldinaphtho[2,1-d:1',2'-f][1,3,2]dioxaphosphepin-4-amine, C38H35NO2P2, was prepared and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Structure elucidation revealed unique features which might have a significant effect in the excellent chemical stability of this type of molecule. The conformation of the molecule provides an optimal chelating structure. Iridium complexes of UPPhos were found to be efficient catalysts in the asymmetric hydrogenation of imines {UPPhos is (11bS)-N-[(2S,4S)-4-(diphenylphosphanyl)pentan-2-yl]-N-(propan-2-yl)dinaphtho[2,1-d:1',2'-f][1,3,2]dioxaphosphepin-4-amine}.

RESUMO

We report an expedient approach to highly functionalized cis- and trans-decalines that could function as key structural subunits toward the synthesis of various classes of terpenoids. Key to the strategy is an organocatalyzed Robinson annulation reaction of the Nazarov reagent that affords chiral enone building blocks with high enantioselectivities. The quaternary carbon stereogenic center can direct the subsequent reactions and allow the rapid and diastereoconvergent assembly of complex decalines with contiguous stereocenters.

RESUMO

The first homoleptic trinuclear arylgold(i) complex, [Au3(L')2](NO3) (3), based on an ortho-phenyl metallated aryl-diphosphine ligand (L' = o-C6H4PPh(C15H10O)PPh2), has been obtained through a new thermolytic reaction of the corresponding diauracycle, [Au2(L)2](NO3)2 (L = xantphos). The formation of 3 involves activation of the ortho-phenyl C-H bond of the xantphos ligands. The presence of Au-C bonds in this new gold-diphosphine cluster is not its only remarkable feature, since it also displays two 12-membered rings fused together and a linear {Au3} chain with aurophilic interactions. Complex 3 exhibits strong sky-blue luminescence that can be assigned to a triplet metal-metal ((3)MM) transition partially mixed with a ligand-to-metal-metal charge transfer ((3)LMMCT) transition related to the aurophilic bonding. This [Au3(L')2](+) triauracycle also shows AIEE-activity, and is a selective luminescent chemosensor for metal ions.
